Geology Field Trip

Geology Field Trip

This summer, the Brighton Institute will team up with Solitude Mountain Resort to offer six Geology Field Trips. A local geologist, Rodger Fry, will lead an all ages’ geology talk at 9 a.m. and a longer, moderate to strenuous lift-served hike at 10 a.m. Participants for the geology talk will meet at 9 a.m. in the Solitude Village near the bridge that leads to the chairlifts. Participants for the lift-served hike will meet at 10 a.m. at the base of the Sunrise chairlift, with their valid lift passes, which can be purchased at the Powderhorn Ticket Office. All hikers are responsible for carrying their own food, water, and sunscreen. Please bring warm clothes and wear sturdy footwear; no open-toe shoes. Wasatch Wildflower Festival

The Wildflower Festival, hosted by the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation and the four Cottonwood resorts, features 1,200 different species of wildflowers spread throughout the Wasatch Range. Through music, food and nature hikes, the festival's goal is to provide a fun and encouraging environment for people to learn about the wide diversity of wildflowers found in the Wasatch Mountains as well as the protection of the watershed.

Tour of Utah

Tour of Utah Bicycle Race

The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, known as "America's Toughest Stage Race™," is a seven-day, professional cycling stage race for the best men’s teams in the world. In its twelfth year, the 2016 event will be held August 1 - 7, and attracts worldwide attention as the top international cycling event that follows the Tour de France. In 2015, the Tour of Utah was elevated to a 2.HC-rated UCI stage race, making it one of the premier events in North America. The 2016 Tour of Utah, with 704 miles of racing and 52,951 feet of climbing, rolls past Solitude on Saturday, August 6.

Midweek Mountain Bike Race

Midweek Mountain Bike Race Series

The MidWeekMTB race series is a family-friendly event for all ability levels in a fun and competitive environment. Races are held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. throughout the Wasatch Front and Back at seven different venues. Participation costs $17 (for pre-registration) and $20 (for race day registration). Kids 12 and under race for free on a separate and appropriate course. There are 10 race divisions, races usually take about an hour (plus or minus 30 minutes) to complete and are sprint-style, cross country races. Upon race completion, the notorious End 'O Race raffle kicks off; all participants are entered to win.

VIGOR Solitude Mountain Resort Trail Series, Race #3

VIGOR UTAH is excited to announce The 4th Annual VIGOR Solitude Mountain Resort Trail Series. There are three dates in this trail run race series and each date has four distances to choose from, all offering beautiful mountain scenery. Choose from three mile (elevation gain 900’), five mile (elevation gain 1,500’), eight mile (elevation gain 2,400’) or eleven mile (elevation gain 3,300’) courses. All four distances include mostly single track with some double track trail; the eight and eleven mile courses also include some paved trail.
